Assessment Assessment is the process of asking a person about themselves and their concerns; to better understand what they need and want, to make changes in their use of alcohol, other drugs, or gambling. Referral After the assessment, it may be clear that a person's needs can be met best by another agency or treatment facility. Staff will provide names and phone numbers of other agencies in the community that can help. If a person would like to go into in-patient care, staff will help connect the person to an addiction treatment agency. Counselling Counselling or treatment is a term that describes the process of offering support, either on an individual basis, or in a group setting.
